The Smell Of Christmas Eve

It was a freezing winter morning. I was standing at the tram stop and waiting to see a dear friend of mine. We were close to Christmas time, and we had to exchange gifts. I looked around, and the streets of Milan were full of flashing lights. People moved frantically between one shop and another to make their last purchases, and a thin fog pervaded the city, as is customary in the northern metropolis. The tram arrived, I run to meet my friend who immediately threw his arms around my neck and kissed me on the cheek. I notice that instead of walking away, he moved closer, plunged his face into my scarf, and whispered in my ear, “Wow, what a wonderful smell you have! Just the ones I like!”. “I’m glad you like it, it’s a gift I gave myself for Christmas.”  " IL (Eau de Toilette) | Lancetti " had just come out on the market, the autumn-winter season of the early 90s. At that time I was working to support my studies, and the perfume was only one, and it had to last for the entire s

ZARA Linen Collect - Surrounding Threat

Surrounding Threat is part of the Linen Collect trilogy, and truth to be told, it was the one that initially did not impress me much when I sprayed on the paper strip. Opened with a chemical smell that thankfully went away in 1 or 2 minutes. So things change quite quickly, and after a while, I started reaching for it, and today I am wearing it. This fragrance is almost unexpected. Just out of the bottle you might think it is quite light, very very light. But actually, as it proceeds, it becomes quite musky and powdery, and much stronger than what you think it gonna be. Well, it is an aroma highlighted by a bouquet of fragrant earthy, green and woody scented tones that will bring a sensual, calming and warm perfumed sensation. Examining it closer once applied you will notice a lingering quality of softer scented musky, animal wildlife and sour hints that hide an essence of uplifting, romantic and comforting feelings.

Based on the combination of notes I would classify ZARA Surrounding Threat as Chypre Floral fragrance. Initially, it is very fresh and green, and a tad soapy, like a bar of body soap. There is a shadow of citrus and mild spicy accord, I presume a sort of lemon peel and just a bit of gentle peppercorn, pink pepper to be precise, so soft and tender compared to the piquant black one.

After about ten minutes it goes down to something muskier, more floral. The blooming and white flowers heart center notes blend in with iris and jasmine. Along with the musk, I get a lot of jasmine blossoms, and every now and then I get something oceanic, even though it is not an aquatic fragrance. Nevertheless, jasmine is the king of the heart, a signature of floral and powdery notes settle the heart of the fragrance.

The dry down is all about the sensual musky accord, yet I get some amber and earthy nuances typical of modern interpretation of patchouli and vetiver, the soft aspect of both.

Albeit it is an EDP, Surrounding Threat is so light that you might need to spray a couple of times a day. This lovely scent is perfect for the warmer months. It is versatile as it can be used for every day as well as intimate occasion, it is perfect to wear anytime anywhere and is not overpowering, not cloying, and not to feminine even for men who like to dare.
